License Renewals

All Respiratory Therapists licensed before September 16 must renew their license during the annual renewal period which begins November 1 and ends December 31. Failure to renew on time will result in an expired license on January 1.
Renewal applications must be paid online or postmarked in November to pay at the $55.00 fee.
Renewal applications paid online or postmarked in December pay at the $65.00 fee.


Applicants may apply for a new license online (Go to Apply Online above). You will need to follow the wizard until completed, attach/upload the required documents, and pay the applicable fee. Applicants may also apply manually.
Or print and mail application along with the required documents and applicable fee. This form is found under Reports & Forms above. This manual method may delay issuance of your license.


To reinstate an expired or inactive license online, you must login with your email address as your user ID. If you have not logged in before you may need to check with our office that we have your correct email address on file. Once logged in, you will need to click the Reinstate button to reinstate then mark reinstatement at the top.
You may ALSO manually apply with the New Application Form under Reports and Forms and submit along with a applicable fee by check/money order to PO Box 40329, Charleston, WV 25364. This manual method may delay issuance of your license.

Documents without Payments Enclosed
are to be mailed to WVBORC, 106 Dee Drive, Ste 1, Charleston, WV 25311.

Employers/New Applicants
New licenses are posted to this site immediately when numbers are issued and are valid to start practicing. Photo ID License Cards are no longer being issued to licensees but sealed verifications may be sent upon request. If you need to verify if a practitioner has a valid license please click "Verify License" where you may view or print a copy for your records. These verifications meet the requirements mandated by JACHO.

Continuing Education Requirements

Continuing Education is Waived during State of Emergency
As a result of the CEU requirement being waived in 2020, the current CEU accrual period is between October 1, 2018 and September 30, 2022. Twenty CEUs taken within this time frame will need to be reported to the board office along with your annual license renewal application in the months of November and December in 2022.


The Governor, by Executive Order, and the West Virginia Board of Respiratory Care by vote, has suspended statute language and some rules to expedite licensure of Respiratory Therapists. These suspensions are TEMPORARY in nature and all suspended requirements will have to be fulfilled after the Declaration of Emergency Order is lifted or the license will expire. You may complete a Temporary Emergency Application found under reports and forms only if you plan to work as an RT in WV temporarily. See COVID-19 Temporary License and Changes for more information.
